Some residents of Lageia remain without water for an eighth consecutive day despite assurances from authorities that a week-long outage has been resolved.
Angry residents have expressed their frustration to philenews, stating that their human right to water is being violated as they resort to bathing with buckets amid high temperatures.
They report difficulty receiving clear information on when the issue will be fully resolved, with authorities repeatedly referring them to each other.
Lefkara mayor Sophocles Sophocleous has also voiced his strong protest on behalf of the community, noting that he contacted the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (LDLGO) yesterday, regarding the matter. “In the times we live in, it is a disgrace that a community has no water for eight days,” he stated.
The LDLGO claims that repeated faults in the system have been repaired with assistance from the Water Development Department (WDD).
However, the WDD has indicated that while they assisted with repairs, the LDLGO is now responsible for managing the water network.
