One year after the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, the trial at Limassol’s Criminal Court has yet to begin.
The 55-year-old victim was killed on the morning of October 30, 2023 in the car park of a seaside restaurant in Limassol.
Four defendants, aged 41, 44, 22, and 21, face charges in connection with the case.
Heavy police presence was deployed inside and outside the District Court building today, the first anniversary of the killing, to prevent potential incidents.
In today’s proceedings, the fourth defendant informed the court he still hasn’t secured legal representation, requesting additional time and stating “it’s not an easy matter”.
When asked how long he needed to find a lawyer, he said two weeks would suffice. The court confirmed his legal aid application has been approved.
Prosecutor Lucas Karnos reported that agreed facts have been prepared, with the defence largely concurring, which should expedite proceedings.
Regarding the first defendant’s lawyer’s request for an expert witness appointment, the prosecution noted the formal request is still pending.
Shiaelis, representing the first defendant, stated he is still searching for an expert witness, as this affects his client’s defence strategy.
The second defendant’s lawyer raised concerns about four new witness statements delivered only today, noting that ongoing investigations affect the agreed facts.
The prosecution explained the new statements were obtained and immediately shared with defence lawyers today.
The case was adjourned until November 11 regarding the fourth defendant’s legal representation, with the trial scheduled for November 25.
