The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation has announced a protest in Platres over the alleged illegal construction of a residence on the Kryos River bed.

The protest will take place at 5 p.m., at the construction site.

The issue was highlighted by the president of the party, George Perdikis in a Facebook post this week.

Perdikis published a video claiming that authorities greenlit the construction of a residence on the environmentally sensitive area.

“It’s just a shame. We don’t love this place. There was so much space to build. He chose to destroy a lush slope and eventually get into the riverbed. Under the ‘watchful’ eye of the authorities,” Perdikis said.

The Commissioner for the Environment, Antonia Theodosiou told CyBC that investigations are being carried out as to why and how the construction permit for a multiple-storey building was granted.

In an announcement on Friday, the Greens claimed that the issuance of the permit bypassed competent authorities.

“We call on the members and friends of the Movement, as well as all concerned citizens, to participate in the protest to ensure the protection of our natural wealth. Environmental protection is everyone’s business,” the party said.
