German national faces 56 charges in occupied land appropriation case

The 49-year-old German real estate agent is set to stand trial in September for allegedly advertising and selling properties in the Turkish-occupied area of Cyprus.

Police allege the woman received €169,150 from the sale of five units in a development built on land owned by displaced Greek Cypriots. The indictment details charges against her, including potential sentences of up to seven years’ imprisonment.

The defendant, whose name is not being reported, maintains her innocence. She claims the €169,150 was payment for advertising, not commissions from sales.

Authorities believe they have identified the five German nationals who purchased the properties. The investigation also revealed the defendant herself owns a unit in the same development.

The prosecution argued for the woman’s continued detention, citing the seriousness of the charges and the defendant’s lack of ties to Cyprus.

The defence countered that their client was unaware of the property’s legal status and cooperated with authorities. They requested bail, offering a €100,000 cash deposit.

The judge ultimately ruled in favour of the prosecution, citing the strength of the police investigation and the defendant’s lack of local ties. The trial is scheduled for September 17th.
