A seasonal low pressure system and a warm air mass continues to affect the Eastern Mediterranean, bringing sweltering conditions across most of Cyprus, with the protracted heatwave set to continue for more than a week, as a slight drop in temperatures is not expected before Wednesday.

Following thin mist and low cloud this morning, yet another scorcher is setting in and a yellow warning will be in place for extreme temperatures, reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius inland and 32 on the mountains, setting off at 12 and lasting through to five in the afternoon.

All health ministry protection recommendations and Labour Inspection heat related directives apply.

Overcast skies from noon onwards are likely to bring isolated showers over the mountains.

Winds will initially be northeasterly to southeasterly and in certain areas southwesterly force three, gradually turning southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate force three to four, over slight seas in the west and north and calm to slight on the southern and eastern coastal regions.

Temperatures will rise to 41 degrees Celsius inland, 33 on the western and southwestern coastal regions, 36 in the rest of the coastal areas and 32 on the highest reaches of the Troodos mountains.

Increasingly low cloud this evening in coastal regions at intervals, with thin mist forming at dawn across many areas of the country. Winds will be light force three over calm to slight seas. Temperatures will drop to 23 degrees Celsius inland, 24 in coastal regions and 20 on mountainous regions.

No significant change in the stifling conditions, coupled with humidity is expected over the next four days, with a slight drop in temperatures on Tuesday, mostly in coastal areas, but still significantly higher than the seasonal average around the island.
