The alert for the fire that broke out shortly after 2:30 PM on a boat in Larnaca marina has ended.

According to the Fire Service Spokesperson, Andreas Kettis, Larnaca Fire Stations responded with two manned fire trucks to a boat fire in Larnaca Marina. The boat was completely engulfed in flames and had been towed by marina staff into the open sea and outside the Marina without affecting other boats.
Contact was made with the Port Authority official, and a Port Authority tugboat with firefighting capability was activated. The burning boat initially approached the rocks and was expected to possibly run aground while burning.

The Fire Service was on standby on land, waiting to act accordingly once the boat ran aground. In a later update, Mr. Kettis mentioned the tugboat’s inability to operate because the boat, being adrift, headed towards shallow waters. The Fire Service remained on standby.

A short while later, at 5:20 PM, he announced that following actions by the marina management, a small boat with portable firefighting equipment extinguished the fire on the remaining hull of the vessel. Subsequently, he stated, it will be towed to a location deemed appropriate by them. The incident for the Fire Service is considered over, and therefore the forces are withdrawing.
