A livestock farmer was arrested in Kofinou around 11am on Friday after attacking two Veterinary Services officials who had arrived at his farm to take animal samples as part of foot-and-mouth disease controls.
The officials, accompanied by police officers, had gone to the farmer’s livestock unit to carry out sampling as part of the ongoing effort to contain the outbreak.
The farmer refused to allow this and attacked the two officials, competent sources told Phileleftheros. Police immediately arrested him on flagrant offence charges and took him to the local police station.
There are no reports of any injuries from the incident at this stage.
