Police are investigating the death of an 86-year-old man who crashed his car on the Analiontas-Tseri road in the early hours, while the fire service said it carried out an operation to free him from the vehicle.
The man was driving on the Analiontas-Tseri road when, under circumstances that remain under investigation, he lost control of his vehicle, which struck a road sign and came to a stop, police said.
He was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
The cause of death is expected to become clearer after the lawful post-mortem examination, which will be carried out at a later stage, according to police.
In a separate announcement, the fire service said it responded at 02:40 to a road traffic collision at the junction of Tseri towards Analiontas and Marki.
It said a private vehicle had struck a sign and become immobilised.
One person was freed from the vehicle using rescue tools and was handed over to the ambulance service for transfer to the accident and emergency department of Nicosia hospital, the fire service said.
Two staffed fire engines responded, including a rescue team vehicle and a rescue vehicle.
