Despite wildfires, illegal dumping sites continue to be created

The issue of illegal dumping of materials continues to be a significant problem in Paphos, with many open spaces, even within urban and peri-urban areas being affected.

Despite the recent devastating wildfire and its disastrous consequences in Polemi, Psathi, and Choulou, attributed to illegal waste disposal, citizens are still reporting similar unacceptable practices across the district.

This suggests that neither the introduction of Green Points (recycling centres) nor the severe implications of these illegal activities have deterred many individuals.

As a result of the prevailing situation, significant pollution is being observed in numerous locations across the Paphos district due to the dumping, primarily pruning waste and household appliances, in addition to the obvious fire hazards this creates.

Given the scale of the problem, Paphos Municipality has recently issued new recommendations to the public, encouraging the utilisation of the Green Points in Moutallos and Koloni, with the latter being located in the neighbouring East Paphos Municipality.
