The informal five-party conference on Cyprus in Geneva has concluded with significant progress, as participants agreed to convene a second conference in July following the same format, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced.
Guterres said he will keep the Cyprus settlement process active, with the conference reaching consensus on several key points, including the appointment of a special envoy for the Cyprus issue and enhanced efforts on confidence-building measures between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
Participants also reaffirmed the bi-zonal, bi-communal federation as the basis for resolving the Cyprus problem, providing a clear framework for future negotiations.
The conference produced agreement on multiple confidence-building measures, including the opening of four new crossing points between the divided communities, the establishment of a Youth Committee and a Climate Change Committee, maintenance of cemeteries, and installation of photovoltaic systems in the buffer zone.
