Rivers and streams that had stayed dry for months began flowing again in several parts of Cyprus this week, an unusual sight for the height of summer, after intense local rainstorms swept the island in recent days.
Rainfall totals varied sharply by area: Makedonitissa recorded more than 62mm in a single 24-hour period, while Xyliatos saw over 47mm, underlining how localised the storms were even as they left significant water behind in the areas they hit hardest.
At the Kalonomatis picnic site in Kampos tis Tsakistras, water reappeared for the first time in months, with striking images shared by the social media users capturing the scene.
Flowing water was also recorded at the same time in the Xylourikos, Limnatis and Kapiliou rivers.
