The Road Transport Department announced the recall of an additional 426 BMW vehicles manufactured between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2008 due to defective Takata driver airbags.

The department said it received information from Char. Pilakoutas Ltd, BMW’s distributor in Cyprus, that the manufacturer has issued instructions for immediate immobilisation of the affected vehicles.

“Consequently, the Road Transport Department has proceeded to recall the roadworthiness certificates of the vehicles in question,” the department said in a statement.

The recall affects BMW vehicles produced during the specified three-year period, with the manufacturer directing owners to immediately stop using their cars due to safety concerns over the faulty airbag systems.

Vehicle owners are urged to contact the manufacturer’s distributor in Cyprus, Char. Pilakoutas Ltd, for further instructions regarding the recall process.

The department has made a list of affected vehicles available for owners to check whether their cars are included in the recall.
