Police arrested 20 people during overnight operations across Cyprus, after organised patrols targeted key points in urban areas to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and increase public safety.

The arrests concerned various offences, including fighting, carrying a knife, malicious damage, attempted theft and illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus.

During the night, police stopped 488 vehicles and checked 651 drivers and passengers. They also carried out 57 checks on premises, resulting in 10 reports.

Traffic checks led to 234 reports for various offences, including 87 for speeding.

Police also carried out 178 alcohol checks, with 17 drivers testing positive. Six drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests, while nine vehicles were seized as part of police investigations.

Police said coordinated operations to prevent and suppress crime continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action aimed at protecting citizens and maintaining public order.
