Activists to rally against Israeli President Herzog’s Nicosia visit on Thursday

The Cyprus Peace Council, together with other anti-war activist organisations, is organising a protest against the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Cyprus, to take place outside the Presidential Palace in Nicosia on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 18:30.

Herzog is visiting at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. The organisers call the meeting a “huge provocation,” pointing to Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza and the West Bank and its expanding campaigns in Lebanon, Syria and Iran — actions they characterise as genocide.

This is not the Cyprus Peace Council’s first protest against a Herzog visit. Around 400 demonstrators gathered outside the Presidential Palace when the Israeli president last met Christodoulides, in January 2025, chanting “killer go home” as he departed.

The organisers argue that aligning Cyprus with Israel undermines efforts to restart substantive talks on the Cyprus problem and endangers the security and wellbeing of the Cypriot people.

The Cyprus Peace Council is calling on people to join the protest and “send a strong message” that the Israeli president is not welcome in Cyprus.
