Cyprus has appointed a three-member investigative committee to examine the supply of vehicles from the EU to the Cypriot market, vehicle imports from third countries, and the recall of these vehicles found to be equipped with defective Takata airbags, Attorney General George L. Savvides announced today.

Former Supreme Court Judge Michalakis Christodoulou will chair the committee. The other appointed commissioners are Michalis Vorkas, President of the Cyprus Bar Association, and Theodosios Hadjimichael, an official from the Audit Office.

The Attorney General and the committee members held their first meeting earlier today, during which they discussed the committee’s terms of reference.

These terms will be included in the Attorney General’s decree to be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic. The chairman and commissioners signed declarations confirming they have no direct personal interest in the matters under investigation.

The formal appointment ceremony for the investigative committee will take place on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Law Office of the Republic.
