Three businesses in Cyprus received bomb threats from abroad in an extortion attempt, police said.
The perpetrators demanded ransoms in cryptocurrency, including 25,000 euros from a private hospital in Nicosia and 75,000 euros from two hotels in Limassol.
The Cybercrime Unit’s investigation revealed the threats originated from outside Cyprus. Similar extortion attempts have been reported in other countries, according to security authorities.
Police departments in Nicosia and Limassol found no explosive devices at any of the locations, confirming the messages were hoaxes aimed at financial gain. The investigation to identify the perpetrators continues.
