President Christodoulides on Thursday met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed in Nicosia to discuss developments in Syria and other regional matters.
The meetings came just a day after Christodoulides visited Cairo for trilateral talks with the Egyptian and Greek leaders.
Following the visits, government spokesperson Constantinos Letymbiotis said in a statement that “the meeting addressed regional and international developments,” with discussions focusing on “the evolving situation in Syria and its potential implications for the Eastern Mediterranean.” He said that Cyprus plays a stabilising role as a bridge between the region and the European Union.
Regarding the meeting with the UAE Foreign Minister, Letymbiotis described it as “a decisive step towards further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and advancing the substantive and active role of the Republic of Cyprus in regional developments.”

Letymbiotis said the discussions centred on the situation in Syria and its potential regional impact, as well as opportunities for cooperation in maintaining and enhancing security and stability.
During the meetings, protesters gathered outside the Larnaca airport and the Presidential Palace in Nicosia to protest Herzog’s visit and Cyprus’s partnership with Israel while the war in Gaza rages with the official death toll approaching 50,000.
