Paphos village cracks down on ‘uncontrolled’ dog waste with €50 fines

The community council of Tala, Paphos, is cracking down on irresponsible dog owners with €50 fines following complaints from residents about unleashed pets and uncollected waste in public areas.

Complainants reported dogs roam daily either unsupervised, without leads, or with owners who fail to collect their waste, creating what the council describes as an “unbearable situation.”

The community council announced the measures after tensions between dog owners and residents in recent months. Arguments and disputes have been frequently recorded between pet owners and other residents who reported seeing waste on public roads, pavements, parks and green spaces.

The €50 penalty will be imposed on owners who fail to collect their dogs’ waste or do not carry waste collection bags. Similar fines apply when dogs circulate unaccompanied or without leads.

Additional penalties will be enforced when animals lack microchips or when the person responsible for the dog does not possess the necessary licences, the council’s announcement noted.
