A fully equipped palliative care unit is set to open in Tala, Paphos, following the donation of a private villa by British residents and extensive community fundraising efforts.

The Friends’ Hospice, which previously operated from a private clinic in Paphos before suspending services, will resume operations after receiving final approval from the Ministry of Health.

The facility, established about 20 years ago by British expatriates, has provided free care to approximately 2,000 terminal patients, with 70 percent being native Cypriots.

Architect Yiannis Koutsolambros, who oversaw the villa’s conversion, confirmed the completion of construction work. The building has undergone internal modifications to meet health ministry requirements while maintaining its residential character.

Tala Community Council President Yiannakis Konikkos said the facility would officially open in the coming days, following final inspection by health authorities.

The hospice, situated in Tala, has been equipped entirely through private donations and voluntary initiatives.
