Police have recommended criminal prosecution of a 24-year-old driver involved in a fatal traffic collision in Aglantzia that claimed the life of 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios, according to information obtained by Phileleftheros.
The case file is now with the Law Office, with sources indicating that at present, there is no discussion of arresting the 24-year-old, but rather criminal prosecution, if and when the Law Office gives the green light.
The fatal collision occurred when Antoniou was travelling on Larnakos Avenue in the direction from the University roundabout towards Nicosia and attempted to turn right. The 24-year-old’s vehicle, which had right of way, is reported to have been travelling at excessive speed when the fatal collision occurred.
Law Office to decide on criminal prosecution
The collision has broader social dimensions. Beyond the loss of a young life, it has brought back into focus reckless driving and specifically the representations of Aglantzia residents, who had been warning police for years about death races by young people on Larnakos Avenue, raising public safety concerns.

The 24-year-old driver of the vehicle involved in the accident had a number of traffic violations on his record that compose the profile of a person who does not comply with the Road Traffic Code.
The individual had been identified by police and checked for cases involving traffic offences.
Driver had history of traffic violations
A Phileleftheros report from August 2024 recorded what was happening on Larnakos Avenue.
At that time, an officer told the newspaper that only mobile cameras are set up at the location, and regarding the specific avenue, he had stated that it is not considered a black spot and that most accidents are minor, without loss of life.
