Customs officers seized 200 litres of diesel from a tow truck at the Ayios Dhometios crossing after finding that its fuel tank had been filled in the occupied areas, the Customs Department said.
The check was carried out on May 16, 2026, as part of routine inspections for the implementation of the Green Line Regulation at the Ayios Dhometios crossing point.
According to the Customs Department, officers checked a tow truck and found that its fuel tank was full of diesel bought from the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.
The department said 200 litres of diesel were found in the tank, with the Greek Cypriot driver admitting that he had filled it at a petrol station in the occupied areas.
Customs officers removed and seized the fuel and also seized the vehicle.

The driver later accepted an out-of-court settlement proposal for the case and paid €800, after which the vehicle was returned to him.
The Customs Department repeated its recommendation to professional drivers and owners of trucks and other commercial vehicles that refuelling their vehicles or transporting additional quantities of fuel from the occupied areas is strictly prohibited.
It also reminded drivers of private vehicles that they are not allowed to carry extra fuel containers from the occupied areas beyond the amount held in each vehicle’s fuel tank, citing non-compliance with the conditions of the relevant European directive, particularly the condition on occasional transport for an additional 10-litre tank in a vehicle.
