Customs officers seized approximately 200 kilogrammes of raw animal products, including bones and skins, from a Turkish Cypriot driver at the Ayios Dometios crossing yesterday. The driver paid a €600 fine to settle the violation.
Customs officers stopped the vehicle on 6 November 2025 during routine checks at the crossing, locating the fresh meat products—consisting of animal bones and skins—originating from the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.
Officers immediately confiscated the animal products and the vehicle. The driver abandoned the confiscated goods for destruction and paid the €600 fine to settle the offences and secure the vehicle’s release.
The Customs Department, which enforces the Green Line Regulation, immediately warned the public to be extremely careful when purchasing products from the occupied areas.
The Department warned that animal products pose a significant risk to public health and could transmit infectious diseases.
