An alarming phenomenon of century-old pine trees drying out has been observed recently in the Saittas area, with indications pointing to human interference.
The Movement of Ecologists said that following an on-site inspection after a complaint, several pine trees next to the Zoodochos Pigi church have dried out.
Maintenance work is being carried out on a house at the location, which strengthens suspicions of interference with the natural environment.
According to the Limassol Provincial Committee of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, a complaint has already been submitted to the Department of Forests.
Despite the owner’s claims that the contractor is responsible and allegedly caused damage to the trees’ root system, the Greens are calling for a full investigation into the causes and checks for any planned development in the area that would contradict these claims.
