The British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) across the Republic have been ordered into an evacuation on Monday afternoon following reports of an imminent “live air threat” and claims by Iranian state media that ballistic missiles have been launched against Cyprus.
On Monday afternoon, the SBA Administration expanded its emergency protocols to include the Dhekelia Base, ordering all personnel and civilian staff to vacate the premises immediately, philenews reports citing sources.
This followed the scramble of British fighter jets after military intelligence identified an active threat in the air, though the precise location of the incoming target remains unconfirmed.
Media outlets affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that retaliatory strikes have been initiated against British military assets on the island.
The evacuation of the bases coincides with the mandatory clearance of the Akrotiri village, ordered by the Interior Ministry of Cyprus and the total evacuation of Paphos International Airport following a drone sighting.
