A body found inside a burned-out vehicle near Liopetri on Monday is in an unidentifiable condition, with British Bases Police taking DNA samples in an effort to establish the identity of the deceased.
The vehicle was completely destroyed, hampering the search for evidence, police sources said. Investigators also plan to trace the owner of the vehicle.
According to philenews sources, a member of the public alerted British Bases Police at 9am that a burned vehicle had been spotted near the Liopetri fish farm. Officers attended and discovered the charred body inside.
The Fire Service and British Bases CID also attended the scene. CID officers collected evidence, which will be sent for scientific examination.
British Bases Police said they are keeping all scenarios open in relation to the case.
