Police arrest man over 10 burglary cases in Ayia Napa

Police in Ayia Napa arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly admitted involvement in 10 burglary and theft cases, authorities said on Friday.

Members of the Famagusta CID spotted the man during a patrol in Ayia Napa at around 12.30 pm after identifying him from CCTV footage recorded in recent days, police said.

According to police, the footage showed the suspect attempting to break into homes.

Officers approached the man and found that his residence permit in the Republic had expired. He was arrested for an offence committed in the officers’ presence.

Police later took the suspect to the Famagusta CID offices, where he allegedly admitted involvement in a total of 10 burglary and theft cases in Ayia Napa during questioning.

The 28-year-old was rearrested under a court warrant in connection with the cases and was expected to appear before the Famagusta district court later on Friday for a detention hearing.

Investigations are continuing.
