He was wanted for breaking and entering, burglary and a host of other relevant crimes, but it was the reckless driving that proved a 39 year old’s downfall yesterday, as police tried to flag him down and then gave chase on the Nicosia-Larnaca motorway.

Patrol officers spotted the vehicle just after nine last night, travelling at 194 kilometres an hour, with the man ignoring repeated calls to stop, as he attempted to flee.

He was eventually arrested and it was soon established that a court order was pending against him in connection with a recent burglary at a Nicosia factory, where a large sum of money was stolen.

During a search of his vehicle police discovered more than 95 thousand of euro in cash and the 39 year old was subsequently also arrested for illegal possession of property.

He was remanded in custody by the capital’s district court as the Nicosia CID investigates, also focusing on possible accomplices of the suspect.
