The alleged victim in businessman Theodoros Aristodemou’s complaint is reported to have given a lengthy statement to police.

The new case against Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos emerged after Aristodemou filed a complaint, accusing Phedonos of committing a serious criminal offence.

Earlier, Aristodemou confirmed he gave a statement yesterday to police regarding the allegations against the Paphos mayor.

Speaking to Alpha about his own allegation against Phedonos 10 years ago, describing him as a “rapist and blackmailer,” and whether he had taken action on this and reported what he had mentioned, he said “I reported it on television on the programme that existed then on CyBC. I didn’t feel I needed to make another complaint.”

He added that “at that time with my complaint I challenged him to take me to court so I could prove it to him in court. He neither took me to court nor moved against me.”

Regarding the testimony he gave yesterday to police and whether it can be substantiated, he answered “I cannot express that position. I said what I believe to be correct.”

Asked whether he has contacted the alleged victim who confided the relevant complaint to him, Aristodemou answered “I have not come into contact with any other person. It is a matter that was referred to at that time (i.e. in 2016).”

“I was willing, as I had said, to report what I reported on television to any authority,” adding that “in my opinion my statement was specific.”

Meanwhile, police continue their ex officio investigation into the Paphos mayor over the alleged assault of his wife.
