Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg sported a rare Swiss timepiece worth nearly $900,000 whilst announcing sweeping changes to Facebook and Instagram’s content policies in support of Donald Trump, Bloomberg has reported.
During Tuesday’s video announcement pledging to remove factcheckers and ease content restrictions, Zuckerberg wore a Greubel Forsey “Hand Made 1” watch on his left wrist.
The timepiece retails for $895,500 before taxes and is one of only two or three pieces produced annually, requiring 6,000 hours of craftsmanship with 95% made using hand-operated tools.
The watch choice marks a stark departure from Zuckerberg’s earlier signature look of gray T-shirts and navy hoodies. The Meta founder has recently developed an interest in luxury timepieces after admiring a $1 million Richard Mille watch at an Indian wedding last year.
In his announcement, Zuckerberg promised to “work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world” deemed too censorious and pledged to remove restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that he called “out of touch with mainstream discourse”.
The tech billionaire, who recently became the world’s third-wealthiest person with a net worth of $217.7 billion according to Forbes, has been spotted wearing various high-end watches by Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre, De Bethune and FP Journe in recent months.
Meta did not respond to requests for comment.
