If you’re a fan of The Meg films, where Jason Statham expertly tamed the largest shark on the planet, then you’re likely to enjoy the following simulation that shows what it would be like to be attacked by a megalodon.
For the record, this species of shark is extinct. It’s estimated to have measured between 15 and 18 metres in length—three times the size of the largest recorded great white shark—and weighed between 48 and 103 tonnes.
These enormous sharks inhabited the oceans around 23 to 3.6 million years ago and went extinct approximately 2.6 million years ago, when Earth entered a global cooling phase.
Although we’re fortunate not to encounter this colossal creature in the wild, it’s now possible to get an idea of how terrifying a megalodon attack would have been thanks to a realistic simulation.
The video shows the shark attacking a ship and splitting it in half. A piece of the wreckage then crashes into a helicopter, which sinks in front of the enormous animal, revealing its size.

The bizarre theories
Despite confirmation of their extinction, strange theories about supposed sightings still surface—some even backed by “evidence” from Discovery Channel videos.
OceanX explorers have debunked the theory, explaining that if megalodons were alive today, there would be clear signs of their presence, which simply don’t exist.
These signs would include bite marks on other sharks from attack attempts, as well as recently shed megalodon teeth and DNA in sediment and water samples.
Emma Bernard, a specialist at the Natural History Museum in London, also confirmed that the megalodon is “definitely not alive.”
“It’s definitely not alive in the deep oceans, despite what Discovery Channel has said in the past,” Bernard stated.
