The United States has ordered the departure of non-emergency government personnel and their family members from Kuwait and Qatar, the State Department announced, as regional tensions sharply escalate.

The US Embassy in Kuwait said it would remain closed until further notice, according to a post on X, signalling a significant drawdown of American diplomatic presence in the Gulf.

In a separate and stark warning, the US Embassy in Jerusalem said it was not in a position to evacuate or directly assist American citizens seeking to leave Israel, urging nationals to make their own arrangements.
