More than one million people, mostly women and children, have been internally displaced in Syria since November 27, when rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched a lightning offensive that led to the overthrow of former president Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reported on Thursday.
“As of December 12, 1.1 million people have been newly displaced across the country since hostilities escalated” on November 27, UNOCHA said in a statement. “The majority are women and children,” it added.
⚠️ Recent developments in #Syria, including the escalation in hostilities, have compounded needs.
