Turkish police arrested 119 individuals suspected of involvement with the Islamic State (ISIS) this week, according to Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu’s Twitter announcement.
The suspects were apprehended in 23 out of 81 provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.
Soylu, who regularly reports on mass arrests targeting ISIS, had previously announced the arrest of 65 ISIS suspects last week.
Since June 1, 2023, Turkish authorities have arrested over 3,600 ISIS suspects, according to official figures.
Some of these suspects, who were members of ISIS, settled in Turkey after the collapse of the “caliphate” declared by the group in 2019.
ISIS, responsible for deadly attacks in Turkey, including the 2017 Istanbul nightclub attack that killed 39 people, claimed responsibility for a January 2024 attack on a Catholic church in Istanbul during a service, resulting in one fatality.
