French police arrested six far-right extremists after a violent attack near a migrant workers’ cultural centre in Paris left a 30-year-old man seriously injured, authorities said.

About twenty masked individuals dressed in black stormed the courtyard of a building in Paris’ 10th arrondissement on Sunday afternoon, where the Cultural Association of Turkish Immigrant Workers (ACTIT) was hosting a film screening.

The assailants, armed with broken bottles, attacked a man dressed in blue before fleeing the scene, according to video footage circulating on social media.

The incident occurred around 5.20pm outside ACTIT, where socialist youth group Young Struggle France was organising the event.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, including a serious wound that may have been inflicted with a blade, police said. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later stabilised, according to Le Parisien newspaper.

While most attackers escaped, police detained six suspects at a nearby metro station. Prosecutors confirmed all detainees are linked to radical far-right groups and launched a judicial investigation for attempted homicide.

Trade union leader Sophie Binet said the victim was an activist in her union. “This brutal attack must be firmly condemned, and those responsible must face justice”, she wrote on social media.

ACTIT called the assault a deliberate attempt to silence migrant workers and young anti-fascist activists, demanding accountability from perpetrators and institutions that “failed to prevent this attack”.

The incident occurred about 350 metres from the site of a deadly shooting two years ago. Young Struggle France has called for a demonstration against far-right violence on Monday evening outside Gare de l’Est station.

“We want to engage in the fight against these new fascist movements, which represent a serious threat to our future”, the group said on Instagram.
