The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has postponed its Oscar nominations announcement by two days due to deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

The nominations, originally scheduled for January 17, will now be revealed on January 19. Voting for the Academy’s nearly 10,000 members, which began on January 8, has been extended until January 14.

Several celebrities have lost their homes in the blaze, including former Oscar host Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, James Woods and Miles Teller.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed sympathy in a letter to members on Wednesday: “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you”.

The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony, to be hosted by Conan O’Brien, is set for March 2 at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

The fires have disrupted Hollywood’s entertainment industry, forcing the cancellation or postponement of several film premieres, including Unstoppable, Wolf Man, Robbie Williams’ Better Man and The Pitt.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nomination announcement, planned for Wednesday, was also cancelled, with nominees instead being revealed via press release. Wicked emerged as the leading contender.

The Golden Globes, considered a key indicator for Oscar success, took place last weekend. The Substance star Demi Moore strengthened her Oscar prospects with a win, whilst other victorious films included Emilia Pérez, The Brutalist and Wicked.
