Myanmar’s military-run TV is reporting that it took 24 hours for rescuers to extract the man from the wreckage of the collapsed building in the country’s capital.
He was pulled out alive by rescue teams from Singapore and Myanmar.
“We were able to rescue man who is around 24 years of age from the rubble. It took us 24 hours for this operation to save this man. He had been stuck under the rubble for about 40 hours,” one rescuer told MRTV.
According to Singapore Civil Defence Forces’s official social media pages, the man had been trapped underneath a collapsed three-storey building, and was extracted using “cutting and breaking equipment” to tear through the concrete. He remains in a stable condition and has been taken to a local hospital, the SCDF added.
The death toll has risen to at least 2 thousand, with more than 20 in Bangkok, 1,000 km from the epicentre.
