A man armed with a knife was arrested on Monday morning, 6 January, after attempting to break into the offices of Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo in Brussels. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the suspect’s motives and background.

The Prime Minister was not in his office at the time of the incident, which caused no injuries but left him “deeply shocked,” according to a spokesperson contacted by AFP. “We are very relieved that no one was hurt,” the spokesperson added, confirming the suspect had been taken into police custody.

In a post on the platform X, De Croo reassured the public, stating he is “closely monitoring the situation” and expressed relief that “no one was harmed.”
