Missiles and drones flying from the direction of Iran struck the territory of the airport in Azerbaijan’s exclave of Nakhchivan on Thursday, a source close to the Azerbaijani government told Reuters, as the regional fallout from the US-Israeli war on Iran continued to spread.
A fire broke out as a result of the incident, the source said, adding that an official statement would follow shortly. It was not immediately clear how many projectiles had struck the area.
Video footage shared by the source showed black smoke rising near the terminal of Nakhchivan International Airport, which lies approximately 10 kilometres from the border with Iran.
