Hezbollah launches rocket barrage on northern Israel amid escalating tensions

The Israeli military reported that Hezbollah fired approximately 30 rockets into northern Israel in three separate waves early Sunday morning. The first barrage occurred around 1:30 AM, followed by two more between 3:30 and 5:00 AM.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks via Telegram, stating that it had targeted Israel’s Ramat David airbase with dozens of missiles in retaliation for “repeated Israeli assaults on Lebanon.” The rocket fire comes amidst intensified Israeli airstrikes along the Lebanon-Israel border. Earlier in the evening, the Israeli military confirmed additional strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, following an earlier assault on thousands of missile launchers and other targets belonging to the Islamist group in southern Lebanon.

“The Israeli military is currently striking Hezbollah terrorist targets in Lebanon,” read the latest army statement. A 60-year-old man sustained minor injuries from shrapnel in the Galilee region following one of the interceptions, according to medical officials.

As a safety measure, schools in Haifa and the Golan Heights have been closed.

These attacks mark the deepest rocket strikes launched by Hezbollah into Israel since the conflict began in October of last year.

Tens of Thousands Protest Again in Tel Aviv

Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis took to the streets in Tel Aviv once again on Saturday night, protesting the lack of an agreement between the Israeli government and Hamas that would secure the release of dozens of hostages still held in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

The weekly protests have become increasingly critical of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, particularly after the discovery of six hostage bodies in southern Gaza earlier this month.
