Greece calls on citizens to flee Lebanon

In a statement released Tuesday, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised its citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon and called for the immediate departure of Greek nationals from the country.

The ministry cited recent developments as the reason for its advisory, urging Greek visitors to utilise available commercial flights to leave Lebanon promptly.

For emergency assistance, Greek citizens can contact the Consular Office of the Embassy in Beirut at (+961) 71 593659 or via email at [email protected].

This advisory comes as Israel intensified its air strikes against Lebanon. The White House has issued a similar warning to US citizens, with National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby emphasising the need for Americans to depart whilst commercial options remain available.

Concurrently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli army would continue its strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. “Our war is not against you, it is against Hezbollah,” Netanyahu said in a video message addressed to the Lebanese people.

The war has already taken a significant toll. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli attacks on Monday killed 558 people, including 50 children, according to Health Minister Firas Abiad.

Israeli Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Herzl Halevi stated that operations against Hezbollah would be intensified, saying, “The situation requires continuous, intense action in all arenas.”
