Tens of thousands of people are expected to gather in London today, responding to a call from far-right activist Tommy Robinson for a mass mobilisation “in favour of freedom of expression.”
“March for your country, march for freedom, march for your children, march for Charlie Kirk,” Robinson wrote in a post on the X platform, referring to the murder of the conservative activist and avid supporter of US President Donald Trump.
The 42-year-old Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is known for his anti-immigrant and anti-Islam views and has been convicted several times, including for public order offences. He was imprisoned in 2018 for contempt of court and in 2024 for making false claims against a Syrian refugee.
The rally is scheduled for 10 am (local time, 12:00 in Cyprus) and will be followed by a march towards Whitehall. The organisers have announced the presence of several figures from the right and far-right, including Steve Bannon, former advisor to US President Donald Trump. The leader of the French far-right party “Reconquest”, Eric Zemmour, confirmed that he will be there.
An anti-racist organisation, Stand Up to Racism UK, has planned a counter-demonstration at the same time in the centre of the British capital. A large crowd is expected to participate in this “March Against Fascism,” as its organisers have named it.
London authorities have announced that more than 1,000 police officers will be mobilised to prevent any disturbances.
