A British woman and her South African fiancé were found dead in separate rooms at a tourist villa in Hội An, central Vietnam, local police have reported.
Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Els Quinton, 36, were discovered by villa staff and police at 11.18am on 26 December. Otteson was found on her bed on the first floor, while Quinton was discovered in a similar position in another room.
Forensic examinations revealed no signs of physical trauma, violence, or forced entry, according to VnExpress. Several used alcohol bottles were found at the scene. The couple had been registered for long-term temporary residence at the villa since 4 July 2023.
Otteson worked as a social media marketing manager with previous experience in Dubai, while Quinton was employed as a barista.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed they are “supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam” and are in contact with local authorities.
