An uneven battle is being fought by the hundreds of firefighters against the fire in northeastern Attica, which initially broke out in the area of Varnavas and has now reached Penteli, threatening Nea Makri as well.
As the Fire Service spokesperson characteristically stated in the first briefing this morning, “All Civil Protection forces fought an all-night hard battle, and despite all the superhuman efforts, the fire developed rapidly.”
A more characteristic depiction of this phrase is the image captured by the photographic lens outside Penteli Children’s Hospital, from which a total of 29 children had to be evacuated.

It is recalled that on the vast fire front in northeastern Attica, 510 firefighters are operating with 16 forest fire units and 152 vehicles, as well as a large number of volunteers, with the assistance of all relevant agencies.
