At least 7 dead in West Bank Israeli attack

Relevant News

The Israeli army announced that overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, it launched an operation in the Jenin and Tulkarm areas in the northern occupied West Bank, while the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health reported seven dead in the first city.

“Security forces are conducting counter-terrorism operations in Jenin and Tulkarm,” the Israeli army said in a statement.

Israeli media outlet YNet News reported that the Israeli army has launched a “large-scale operation” in the occupied West Bank to “arrest wanted individuals and destroy terrorist infrastructure.”

Targeting hospitals

Hundreds of Israeli soldiers, with “significant air support,” invaded three refugee camps – Jenin, Nur Shams, and al-Fara – in the occupied West Bank and are targeting hospitals to prevent Palestinian fighters from reaching them, according to the Israeli media.

Exchanges of fire are also taking place in all three camps, YNet News adds.

In anticipation of “annexation”

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, considered an ally of Hamas, denounced a “large-scale attack on cities and refugee camps in the northern occupied West Bank,” estimating that Israel is seeking to “transfer the war” to this area ahead of its “annexation.”

Hundreds killed

Following Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip, triggered by an unprecedented raid by Hamas on southern Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, the situation in the occupied West Bank, already tense, has further deteriorated.

At least 649 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli military or Jewish settler fire since then, according to figures from the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health.

Many were armed Palestinian fighters, others were young stone-throwers, and others were civilians with no involvement in the episodes.

On the other side, at least 18 Israelis, including soldiers and members of the border police, have been killed in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the same period, according to official Israeli data.
