U.S. investors are exploring participation in the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project, which will link the power grids of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, according to Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou.

Speaking to Open television, the Minister stated that the U.S. is currently in a “phase of investigation,” requesting specific financial data for the project. He stressed that the interconnector holds “broader geopolitical significance” and is seen as reinforcing Washington’s strategy for greater presence and energy interconnection in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Papastavrou noted that the investors are demanding “numbers and data” before proceeding. He added that the project is also viewed as a “strategic corridor” due to the region’s importance to American energy policies.

Papastavrou underscored Greece’s significant geographical location, adding that “American laws say that wherever American natural gas passes or American giants invest, no one touches it.”

The Minister also referenced Turkey, stating that the country “cannot step on two boats,” and claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump had told the country it “must choose.” He concluded by stating that the country’s “shielding is reinforced” through agreements signed at the Zappeion Hall, which were attended by “four American Ministers and American giants.”
