Significant variations in fuel prices have been observed recently among petrol stations across Cyprus, with a difference of up to 14 cents per litre observed for the same type of fuel, according to data.
The Consumer Protection Service urged drivers to shop around after research revealed discrepancies even between stations on the same road.
Data from the Ministry of Energy’s Retail Fuel Prices Observatory showed a 14 cents per litre difference for 95 octane unleaded petrol on Tuesday, ranging from €1.45 to €1.59 per litre.
The price gap could translate to a €7 difference for a single 50-litre fill-up, representing a substantial saving potential for consumers.
Over four weeks, consumers consistently opting for the cheapest petrol station could save approximately €28 if price differences remain constant.
Director of the Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Energy Constantinos Karagiorgis speaking to Phileleftheros about the significant variations in prices between stations, called on consumers to be vigilant in their choices.
According to Karagiorgis, consumers should consult the Fuel Prices Observatory and added that by making informed decisions, consumers can save a significant amount of money each month.
It is worth noting that research conducted by Phileleftheros on the Retail Fuel Prices Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Energy reveals that fuel prices tend to be lower at stations in communities or less busy areas compared to stations in urban areas.
Fuel prices in Cyprus have decreased in recent days. Constantinos Karagiorgis noted the downward trend in fuel prices and did not rule out the possibility of further price reductions in the coming days.
