The Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) has submitted a proposal for EU co-financing to expand the Vasiliko port into a new industrial harbour under its management.
The application, submitted on Tuesday, seeks funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme for transport infrastructure projects, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works said.
The €350 million expansion project aims to increase the port’s capacity to 1,772 vessels annually. Plans include constructing nine new quays spanning 2,355 metres, breakwaters, deepening approach channels, and developing land facilities.
The CPA has requested €38.5 million in co-financing for Phase A of the project, which has a total budget of €85 million.
A feasibility study highlighted the expansion’s strategic importance for Cyprus, particularly in meeting EU green energy standards. The ministry said Vasiliko port’s location is of exceptional strategic value.
