Limassol Municipality will launch an architectural competition in the coming weeks for the design and supervision of the city’s first student housing project.
The €6.5 million development will be built on municipal land on Voreiou Ipeirou Street, close to the city centre and the ‘Second Pole’ area where various developments are already planned.
The student accommodation will offer rents approximately 30% lower than current market rates in the city, providing relief for students and their families.
The first meeting of the competition’s evaluation committee was held yesterday at Limassol Town Hall, where committee members reviewed the competition process, phases, regulatory framework and participation terms.
“We’ve prepared the building specifications and competition terms. Today we finalised the conditions and timeline for the competition,” Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis told Phileleftheros.
Armeftis said the next step is to finalise the terms with the aim of publishing the competition within three weeks. The municipality has approached both the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber and the Cyprus Architects Association to include their members in the process, as required by law.
The project will be funded through municipal resources and investors. Notably, 80 of the accommodation spaces will be specially designed for people with mobility issues and students requiring companions.
“Construction will take approximately 20 months, with the entire project expected to be completed within 3-4 years,” the mayor added.
