Disgruntled former employees of Kition Ocean Holdings staged a protest outside the Larnaca Port on Friday morning, voicing their concerns over job security following the company’s contract termination.
Around 9 am, protesters gathered outside the port, holding placards that highlighted their plight. Some messages included “87 families left stranded. Why?” and “Shame and disgrace. Gross injustice for Kition employees and Larnaca.”
This development follows the symbolic takeover of Kition’s central offices by the Larnaca Port Authority on Friday.
The Port Authority replaced Kition’s signage with their own, marking a visible shift in operational control.
Adding to the tension, the President of the House of Representatives and President of the ruling DISY party, Annita Demetriou, is scheduled to meet with the affected workers later today.
The purpose of the meeting is to address their anxieties and concerns regarding their employment status.
