Labour Ministry, social partners to meet twice weekly on pensions

Cyprus’s Labour Ministry and social partners have agreed to hold two meetings a week as pension reform consultations continue, aiming to keep to the timeline set by Labour Minister Marinos Moushouttas.

The agreement was reached at the start of Friday morning’s meeting of the Labour Advisory Body at the Labour Ministry.

Meetings will take place every Monday and Thursday morning over the coming weeks, until the relevant bill is submitted to Parliament. The exception is this coming Monday, August 31, when the Body will meet at 4:30pm instead.

In his opening remarks, Moushouttas said the Ministry intends to intensify the consultations, while noting that, from a legal drafting standpoint, there is room for amendments to the proposal currently before the social partners.

Earlier, the Technical Committee was briefed by the Labour Ministry on the reform’s so-called “pillar zero,” which concerns state social policy for low-pension earners.
